Lauren grew up in a musical family, her parents playing the piano and guitar. Lauren’s mother is a conservatory trained piano player, while her father is a self taught guitar player. From a very early age, music was emphasized and encouraged at home. As soon as Lauren could manage a keyboard, she was enrolled in music lessons and played in many concerts and competitions. Lauren participated in many music events including singing in the school choir at Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto. When Lauren became a teenager, her interest turned towards the guitar. After learning a few basic chords from dad, Lauren began taking lesson from a local instructor. Very soon after these lessons started, Lauren was invited to play with the instructor’s band at a gig. The instructor was quite enthusiastic about Laurens skill and they formed a duo, playing local venues in Durham region including The Cellar. After winning a local band competition, they played The Kathedral in Toronto. Lauren also played with other musicians/bands during this period and performed at The Rocket, a well known venue in Toronto.
It is during this period that Lauren began writing her own material. During a trip to Europe Lauren composed Lynch’s Window, played venues in Galway and Dublin and won a local competition.
Upon returning to Canada, Lauren continued to compose original music and perform at local venues. Lauren was a winning performer at a talent competition hosted by Q107 at Johnny B’s a popular club in Durham Region.
Most recently, in April 2008, Lauren completed a 5-song demo CD at
Studio 22 in Toronto, which included 4 original songs and a cover tune of a band that was a significant influence on her musical orientation.
